Finland Entrance Exams 2027: International UAS Exam, SAT and Other Routes
Most Bangladeshi Bachelor's applicants to Finnish universities of applied sciences (UAS) take the International UAS Exam. It is an online exam in English, taken from your own computer, and the 2027 date is 23 March 2027 (12:00 Finnish time, 16:00 in Dhaka). A smaller number of places are reserved for SAT scorers, and some institutions run their own exams. Master's applicants to universities are usually selected on documents, with no exam. Bangladeshi applicants made up about 8% of both applicants and accepted students in the January 2026 joint application, so you will be competing with many students from your own country.
What Do the Numbers Say About Getting In?
Before choosing a route, it helps to know the odds, and our Dhaka team at Study in Finland starts every consultation there. The Finnish National Agency for Education (OPH) published these figures for the spring 2026 joint application to English-taught programmes.
| Statistic | Figure |
|---|---|
| Applicants (final, English-taught) | about 21,800, down by just under a fifth |
| First-round applicants (provisional count) | about 23,700, down 27% on 2025 |
| Study places | about 9,000 in about 440 programmes |
| Overall acceptance rate | 37% (up from 33%) |
| Universities vs UAS acceptance rate | 31% vs 36% |
| Applicants from outside the EU/EEA | about half; 39% were offered admission |
| Bangladeshi share of applicants | 8% |
| Bangladeshi share of accepted applicants | 8% (roughly 650 offers, by our own arithmetic on the 21,800 total) |
| Share of offers that were Bachelor's | 43% (Master's: 57%) |
Three things stand out for a student in Dhaka.
- Competition depends on the field. Engineering and technology had about 2.6 applicants per place and ICT about 2.8, while social sciences had 8.7 and arts 9.2. If you are flexible on subject, this matters more than any exam trick.
- The €100 application fee changed the pool. OPH reports that the fee, introduced in 2025, roughly halved applications that year, and about 6,000 applications were removed for non-payment. Bangladesh, Nigeria and Nepal saw the largest declines this year.
- Nobody publishes an exam pass rate. We could not find any official pass rate for the International UAS Exam, nor figures by nationality. In 2022, the first year, more than 17,000 applicants took it and more than 2,200 were selected through it (Arene), but that exam then included a group interview and its format has since changed.
At Study in Finland, we advise Bangladeshi applicants to treat the exam as one part of a wider strategy: field choice, programme choice and document quality matter as much as the test itself.
Which Exam Route Fits You?
| Route | Who it suits | Taken from Dhaka? |
|---|---|---|
| International UAS Exam | Bachelor's applicants to UAS programmes taught in English | Yes, remotely |
| SAT | Applicants with a strong SAT score at programmes that accept it | Yes, at a test centre, with results sent electronically |
| Certificate-based selection | Holders of IB, EB or DIA diplomas completed in Finland | Not applicable to the HSC as far as the official page shows |
| Institution-run exams | Specific programmes (Diak, Novia, Hanken and others) | Varies: some online, some on campus in Finland |
| No exam, documents only | Most Master's programmes at universities | Yes |
Whether you apply to a UAS or a university changes the whole exam picture. Our guide on university versus UAS in Finland explains how the two differ before you pick a route.
The International UAS Exam in Detail
The International UAS Exam is a joint digital entrance exam of the Finnish UASs. It assesses readiness for UAS study, requires no advance reading, and one sitting can be used to apply to programmes at several UASs.
Key dates
| Detail | Spring 2027 round | Autumn 2026 round (January 2027 starts) |
|---|---|---|
| Exam date | 23 March 2027 | 6 November 2026 |
| Start time, Finland / Dhaka | 12:00 / 16:00 | 12:00 / 16:00 |
| English proof and passport copy due | 28 January 2027, 15:00 | 17 September 2026, 15:00 |
| Pre-identification (Candour ID app) | 10 to 12 March 2027 | 29 to 30 October 2026 |
| Results | by 14 April 2027 | by 19 November 2026 |
| Waiting-list offers until | 3 August 2027 | 10 December 2026 |
The exam is held once, on that date, and cannot be taken at another time. The autumn 2026 round uses the exam for 11 study programmes, and the spring round covers the fields below. For the autumn round and the application timetable, see our January 2027 intake guide.
Sections and timing
| Section | Minutes | Who takes it |
|---|---|---|
| Reasoning skills | 25 | All programmes |
| English language skills | 20 | All programmes |
| Mathematical skills | 25 | Most fields |
| Advanced mathematical skills | 30 | Technology only |
| Ethical skills | 10 | Social Services, Health Care, Sports, Beauty Care, Humanities and Education |
| Emotional intelligence skills | 10 | Same fields as ethical skills |
Fifteen minutes are allowed for transitions between sections. The fields covered are Humanities and Education, Business Administration and Business Information Technology, Natural Resources, Tourism and Hospitality, Seafaring, Social Services/Health Care/Sports/Beauty Care, and Technology.
How scoring works. Your total is the sum of the section scores for your programme, and you must reach the minimum pass score in every section. Scores are valid only for the application round you took them in, so a good score in March 2027 does not carry over to 2028. Exam questions and answers are not published.
Taking a Proctored Exam from Bangladesh
The exam is remote and monitored, so your set-up matters more than your location. The rules below come from the organisers' pages.
- Use a desktop or laptop. Phones, tablets and Chromebooks are not allowed.
- Use the current version of Chrome, or Microsoft Edge if needed.
- Install the SMOWL proctoring software and have a frontal camera, a microphone and a second external camera device.
- Pre-identify in the Candour ID app with your original passport. Photocopies are not enough.
- Work alone. No one else may be visible or audible, and headphones, phones and AI tools are prohibited. Paper notes are allowed, and only the built-in calculator may be used in maths sections.
- Stay visible on both cameras and do not leave your seat once the exam starts.
Results can be dismissed if monitoring review shows the rules were broken. Some practical points we raise with Dhaka students: test your power backup and internet beforehand, choose a quiet room, and remember the exam starts at 16:00 Bangladesh time. The organisers' pages do not mention Bangladesh-specific arrangements, so there is no Dhaka test centre to rely on.
Before you can sit the exam you must also prove English skills through an internationally recognised test or previous studies. That is a separate requirement from the exam itself.
The SAT Route
Some UAS programmes reserve a small number of places for applicants selected on SAT results. The quota is much smaller than the exam quota. At Oamk in spring 2026, for example:
| Programme | Places via International UAS Exam | Places via SAT |
|---|---|---|
| International Business | 24 | 4 |
| Information Technology | 30 | 5 |
| Mechanical Engineering | 25 | 5 |
| Energy and Environmental Engineering | 15 | 5 |
| Nursing | 22 | 0 |
| Social Services | 10 | 5 |
Rules vary by school. Oamk required at least 400 in both Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and in Math, while Xamk required 500 in each for its August 2026 intake. Both accept only the new SAT taken after March 2016, and results must be sent electronically from the College Board, because score reports you send yourself are not considered. Only sections taken in a single sitting count. These are 2026 figures, so confirm the 2027 minimums and deadlines on each programme page before you book a test date.
Certificate-Based Selection: Does the HSC Qualify?
Certificate-based selection scores your upper secondary results instead of an exam. For foreign diplomas, the official page covers the European Baccalaureate, the International Baccalaureate and the German Reifeprüfung/DIA, and only when administered in Finland. They are scored on the same 198-point scale as the Finnish matriculation examination. The page does not list the Bangladeshi HSC, so do not assume it can be used here. Our guide on whether Bangladeshi HSC students can study in Finland covers eligibility for HSC holders.
Institution-Run Exams
Some programmes run their own tests alongside or instead of the national one.
- Diak, Social Services (spring 2027): a written English test on its Helsinki campus on 10 March 2027, scored out of 40 with a pass mark of 20. About 20 places go through this exam and 20 through the International UAS Exam. You can take both.
- Novia, Vaasa and Turku (2027 intake): online entrance exams for rolling admission (2 November 2026 to 30 April 2027), five exam rounds assigned by application date, plus an on-site exam for maritime programmes scored 40/40/20 (maths and logic, English, work experience), with a pass mark of 20.
- Hanken: its national exam is held in person at venues in Finland, so it is not a remote option.
Do Master's Applicants Need an Exam?
Usually not at universities. The University of Vaasa, for instance, selects international Master's students on documents, with no entrance exam. You submit a certified transcript, and if you have not yet graduated you can apply with the documents you have and be conditionally accepted. Non-EU/EEA applicants pay the €100 application fee. The joint application window for English-taught programmes runs from 7 to 21 January 2027, and each programme sets its own criteria for grades and language. Some programmes do use extra tests or interviews, so check the specific programme page.
Common Mistakes
- Missing the English proof deadline. The exam invitation depends on it, not just on your application.
- Using the wrong device. A phone, tablet or Chromebook will not work.
- No second camera. The monitoring set-up requires one.
- Applying without paying the €100 fee. Unpaid applications are not processed.
- Assuming scores carry over. They are valid for one round only.
- Ignoring field competition. Social sciences and arts draw several times more applicants per place than engineering or ICT.
- Treating the SAT as a back-door. The SAT quota is small and minimums differ by school.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an entrance exam to study in Finland as a Bangladeshi student?
For most Bachelor's programmes at UASs, yes, usually the International UAS Exam. For most Master's programmes at universities, no, selection is usually on documents.
When is the International UAS Exam in 2027?
23 March 2027, starting at 12:00 Finnish time (16:00 in Dhaka). The autumn 2026 round is on 6 November 2026.
Can I take the exam from Bangladesh?
Yes. It is held remotely on your own computer. The organisers do not list any Bangladesh-specific arrangements.
Is there an exam fee?
The organisers say only that an application fee must be paid "if required" and publish no exam-fee amount. Non-EU/EEA applicants pay a €100 application fee through Studyinfo.
What score do I need to pass?
You must reach the minimum pass score in every section of your programme. The organisers do not publish a pass rate.
Can I retake the exam?
Scores are valid only for the round you sat. You would need to apply again in a later round.
Is the SAT accepted?
At some UAS programmes, with small reserved quotas and school-specific minimums. Check each programme page.
What is the acceptance rate for Bangladeshi students?
No official figure by nationality is published. Bangladeshis were about 8% of applicants and 8% of accepted students in the January 2026 round, and 39% of non-EU/EEA applicants overall were offered admission.
Conclusion
The exam is only one of three hurdles. The first is choosing a field where the odds are workable, the second is meeting the English and document deadlines, and the third is the test itself. For UAS Bachelor's applicants from Bangladesh, that test is almost always the International UAS Exam on 23 March 2027, and the preparation that matters most is practical: the right device, a second camera, an early pre-ID and no missed deadlines.
